| And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
--Romans 8:28
Is that really true? Does God ALWAYS
work for the good of people who love him? What about when really bad
things happen. Does God work in those really bad things? Life has made
me wonder a lot lately about the goodness of God. So much crazy stuff
has happened in the last year and I've really begun to question whether
or not God is really good all of the time. I feel like thats something
that people often just kinda say but they really don't understand what
they are saying. Think about that. If you are in agreement of this
verse than you are saying that no matter what happens in life, God is
not only in control but he is good
in every single situation. Thats kind of a tough mouthful to handle. I
think we say a lot of things but we really don't think about them. God
works for the good of all those who love him. mmmm...life tells me
otherwise. Thats gonna take some thought...

| today i learned a great many things. its amazing what a little hard
work and physical labor can do for a person. kinda made me focus a
little bit...
1) horse poop really smells a lot and its quite heavy when its wet
2) horse stalls
should be cleaned out often--otherwise it
tends to accumulate
3) shoveling poop can be quite fun when done w/the right people
4) the hair of a pig is
not very silky/smooth like its depicted in the movies
5) baby goats are really super cute
6) grooming a horse is quite fun (learned how to do that today)
7) when standing behind a
horse beware of kicking and stinky flatulence
8) God is sovereign and he loves me though i don't usually love him like i should
9) God is in control and i need to just go w/what he has given me
10) God is good all the time, all the time God is good
life really doesn't make sense. i haven't a clue what he's doing, why
he's doing it, or what he wants me to do with it but i do know that he
loves me. so with all of the craziness going on in life and everything
falling apart and going psycho i'll hang onto him. He's bigger and stronger anyways.

| please pray for virginia tech and everyone there. the world is just so very crazy sometimes...
"How long, O LORD, must I call for help,
but you do not listen?
Or cry out to you, "Violence!"
but you do not save?
Why do you make me look at injustice? Why do you tolerate wrong? Destruction and violence are before me; there is strife, and conflict abounds.
Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never prevails. The wicked hem in the righteous, so that justice is perverted."
--Habakkuk 1:2-4

| okay so maybe i haven't posted in a very long time. so here's an
update. sophomore year is not so fun....school is over in 1 monthish
and i will be esctatic when it is done. i'm going to zambia in about a
month and working in cape cod w/that cool kid for the remainder of th
summer. heck yes.
*warning*--this will be a theological post as i am currently in the
midst of pretty much questioning everything i know and believe. ponder
this...
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." -- 2 Timothy 3:16-17
now
for real what does that actually mean? if we believe that to be true
then you can't just pitch out certain parts of scripture that you don't
agree with. how does this implicate things like abortion, the
christians in the military debate, homosexuality, the role of women in
church....and the list goes on. how do we know what is cultural in the bible and what is factual
and to be taken literally. for example...arguments have been made to
the point that it is okay for a woman to be a pastor because mainly
what Paul was talking about in his letters was the cultural role of
women at the time and how that should play into the life of the church.
i'm not going to go into personal opinion here but think about it. if
the role of women in the church was cultural and its okay for women to
be in pastoral positions in the modern church than how do we know any
other command from God written in the Bible isn't cultural?
like....murder...was it just culturally wrong for the israelites to
murder but not so much for us today? or homosexuality (hot
debate)...were the laws prohibiting homosexuality in the old testament
and what Paul mentions in the new testament were they merely cultural
ones that shouldn't be taken literally? but where then do we draw the
line? was some of the stuff that Jesus said just cultural then? what
about stuff like...loving your enemies. was that just cultural because
of the oppression of the jews at the hands of the Romans in Jesus time?
or is that a command that we as Christians in the modern world should
strive to live by whether or not some outside for is oppressing us? see
what i mean...the line gets a wee bit fuzzy. how inherent is the
inherent word of God?
thoughts?
